Ans: According to Verrier Elwin the tradition of courtesy and hospitality is unhappily a rare thing in the modern world of competition, and rivalry and hurry.
Contrary to it, in Assam he feels intoxicated with the grace and charm of the people and with a certain beauty in human relationship. He had travelled many countries but never did he find such friendliness and courtesy as he found in Assam. He has called the tradition of hospitality and friendliness among the Assamese people of Assam never to lose it.
Q.2. What difference does Verrier Elwin draw between the Game Sanctuaries of Kenya and Kaziranga?
Ans. Verrier Elwin has observed the same serious differences between the Game Sanctuaries of Kenya and Kaziranga. In Kenya and Tanganyika in East Africa there is a sort of tradition that everybody should cooperate to make the sanctuaries a success. A lot of money is spent on them and no one dreams of poaching. One can see hundreds of Giraffes, Zebras, Ostriches, wild elephants and even lions moving about near the roads in perfect confidence. These animals treat man as their friend. But in Kaziranga he found and entirely opposite picture. The animals in Kaziranga do not feel safe and they do not appear so readily. The public does not cooperate in the same way as it does in Kenya.

Ans. The author asks the questions about how many books, how many collections have been made of the songs and poems of Assam’s countryside. He appeals to the scholars to take the trouble to record these songs. He knows that the work will mean a great deal of trouble. But before it is too late some scholar should collect them.
He makes this appeal because these songs and poems in the countryside of Assam are rapidly disappearing. The school boys prefer Jazz music from Hollywood and naturally the local songs of Assam will soon disappear.

Ans. Verrier Elwin has praised the wood carvings done by the Konyaks, Maos and Marams, the Angamis and the Phoms. Some of the wood carvings done by the people are of extraordinary vigour and beauty and people should not let it be lost. Verrier Elwin wants that the art of wood carving be taught and encouraged in our educational institutions so that the beautiful art remains alive and does not die with the old artisans and craftsmen.

Ans. Verrier Elwin has found a great treasure of old culture among the hill people of Assam. He has praised the good taste, the sense of colour and form, the delight in beauty. the love of rhythm, the right tone of music of the people. His suggestion is that such beautiful things should never be looked down upon and thrown away easily. Such things grow out of ancient soil and once they are gone they cannot be recovered.

Although he had travelled many countries he had never found so much courtesy and friendliness in ordinary people such as a shop-keeper or a chap who met on the road and the officials in Assam. Ans. The other day the writer arrived at a Kabul village. He had to climb a formidable village to reach the village. He was tired. Suddenly he arrived at a spot of fantastic beauty of unearthly nature. Some thirty splendid youths were marching up and down with spears. They were wearing red clothes and white crowns like wings. Their limbs were glowing golden in the setting sun. They were singing melodies that recalled a long forgotten world. They sang a funeral song. The writer did not understand their words. But he was so delighted by the music that he would be proud to have it sung over his own body when it would die and go to the dust.
